I quite remembered when I was punished for going to watch a Nigerian film at a movie centre when I was a child. It was a black and white television but did I go there because of the television? No, I went there to watch human beings flaunting their talents and to enjoy myself. Yet both my mother and my teachers did not just get it. So they made this remark, “Why would you leave the house to watch a black and white television?”
And in my little mind, I was also asking them, why shouldn’t I? I liked the part that I was disciplined for going out but I hate their mindset about the whole ordeal.
All I am trying to say is that not everyone will understand your motives and not everyone will accept you the way you are. But hey, if only you can prove yourself right before your conscience and your heart, you are free to do what you want to do. Many will not accept you but you must accept yourself. A lot of people will chastise your works today but if only you keep doing what you do best, you will be vindicated.
There’s always something beyond what we see. And people judge from the angle they stand so stop worrying about what they see and what they don’t see. If you can see it, then move towards it. Go for what you want and stop making people understand and accept your ideologies first.
Remember, there’s always something beyond the black and white. Go get it.
